Intonation Crowned Winners at UK Language Sector Awards

Posted on 03 Oct 2017

The 2017 Association of Translation Companies’ UK Language Industry Summit Awards were a great success for the Intonation team as the company came away with two trophies.  Runners-up in the “Project Management Team of the Year” award, Intonation’s Translation Manager Tatiana Poliakova was named “Project Manager Of The Year”, seeing off strong competition from across the industry. The awards, designed to recognise and celebrate success in the language sector, took place during the ATC’s gala dinner in London at the end of September.

A qualified translator and interpreter, Tatiana was recognised not only for her work overseeing the project management team at Intonation, but also for her contribution to the development of the industry as a whole.  Intonation’s Commercial Director, Dan Peachey, explains “Tatiana’s experience is invaluable to Intonation but she also spends a lot of time working on projects outside the company.  In the last year, she's mentored a number of students from Portsmouth University, been invited to speak at translation industry events and carried out translation work for charity free of charge into her native Slovak.  Her recognition is a fantastic achievement, particularly as it comes from her industry peers.”

Tatiana, pictured above receiving the award from ATC Chairman Roy Allkin, said: “I was surprised to win and it feels like a huge accomplishment. It’s great to know my work is appreciated. The team here work hard to deliver an excellent service, and the success is down to the effort of everyone, so I was happy that we picked up the runner’s up trophy in the team award too."

Dan added, “The ATC awards really are a great opportunity to reward the heroes of our industry and to say Intonation is an award-winning company is something I’m really proud of- especially twice over!  The competition was so strong and to see the team recognised truly is a great achievement.”

The judging panel for this year’s awards was made up of Liz Pryke, Secretary of the ATC, Sarah Griffin-Mason, Chair of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting and Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at Portsmouth University, Rudy Tirry, President of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies and Laura Brandon, Executive Director of the Globalization and Localization Association.

Liz Pryke said: “The gala dinner and awards were a real celebration of success in the language sector. There are many talented people in our industry and these awards recognise their commitment to excellence. We congratulate Tatiana on her award and we’re confident she and the other winners will continue to provide outstanding services to ensure the language sector carries on growing.”
